Grand Illusions - A nicely designed site with a wide range of online illusions. It shows many classic illusions along with some brainteasers and also a bit of magic. Also contains a shop and a range of articles on optical illusions and related topics. A site well worth visiting!

The Exploratorium's Online Exhibits - A nice range of classic optical illusions with an element of interactivity. Experience optical illusions hands on as you manipulate them yourself to learn more about them and be even more amazed at their workings. An all round great site.

www.opticalillusions.ws - A huge range of optical illusions of all types and variations. They have a wide number of illusions for you to browse through, which are all rated on a scale from 1 to 10 to help you see the coolest illusions first. You can add your vote as well by rating the one's that you've seen. Very nice.

Checkershadow Illusion - A link directly to an illusion by Edward H. Adelson. This is my clear favourite optical illusion of all time, as it goes beyond the realms of ordinary illusions to demonstrate how our visual perception system can be tricked, even with object with which we are all familiar. This is truly amazing!

OPTICAL ILLUSIONS - A huge number of classic online optical illusions all on one page with information around them to help you out (whilst not spoiling the surprise!). Also has background music, for if you want to listen to something whilst experiencing the illusions!

Magic Eye Inc. - Official website from the creators of Magic Eye. Contains an array of online Magic Eye's, information on how they are created and what they consist of, a shop and various online competitions. Also includes a 'Joke of the Week' and Link site.

vision3d - A website on the optimetrists network, contains a lot of information on the eyes and 3D vision, along with numerous examples of Magic Eye's and information about them. Also explanations and a shop.

Magic Eye Desktop Wallpaper - I site that a number of Magic Eye Images which are designed for use as a desktop wallpaper. This way, can you view a Magic Eye whenever you're on your computer! They are free to download and optimised for 800x600 resolutions.

Magical Eye Pictures - A site which contains a variety of Magic Eye images and includes the ability to vote for your favourite picture. It also has links to the solutions to help you if you get stuck! A Magic Eye maze is also included, which had a high scoreboard as well!

Lightness Perception and Lightness Illusions - Online demonstrations and a full paper of explanation on an array of optical illusions, by the renowned perception psychology Edward H. Adelson. A well designed site and a very interesting paper for those who want to learn more about the amazing phenomena of optical illusions.

New Theory of Optical Illusions - A large site containing a wealth of explanatory information on a theory of perception and how we come to perceive images as optical illusions. The theory is explained and related to all the classic areas of illusions - very interesting for some who wants to know how they work.

Magic Eye - The official website of the fantastic Magic Eye series. This contains some online 'Magic Eye's' as well as a lot of information as to what they are, how they are constructed and how they work.

Mirages "Mirages"


Mirages in Finland - A nicely designed site which is easy to use and well laid-out. Though it is primarily related to Finland, this section of the site contains a wealth of information on mirages - what they are, where they've been seen, explanations for how they occur etc. - a site well worth visiting.

Mirages in the Sky - A fascinating site about a climber's experience of a mirage when climbing a mountain in Scotland. The illusion they saw was amazing, showing the true power of this incredible phenomena. A well-written site tells what they saw, an offers an explanation for it.

Mirages and Green Flashes - Though this website immediately tells us that mirages are not technically optical illusions, they are just as fascinating and this website goes into detail about the science behind them - what they are and how they occur. A very interesting read.

Mirages - A large list of mirages that have occurred around the world. In names the places and the mirages that frequently occur there. A very interesting site that shows just how widespread this amazing phenomena is.

Tricky Optical Illusion Puzzles - A link to the book 'Tricky Optical Illusion Puzzles', by Jerry Slocum and Jacob Botermans. Of course, you do not have to purchase it from this site but there is some more information for you and other details here. A fantastic book containing some stunning illusions.

Magic Eye Posters - An array of Magic Eye posters for you to purchase. They are all high quality images and, in my personal opinion, would brighten up any room! Armed with large versions of these images, you could do them whenever you were bored around the house.

Magic Eye Gallery: A Showing Of 88 Images  - Another Amazon.com link, this one displaying a fantastic array of over 80 Magic Eye Illusions for you to have a go out. In fact, there's a whole series of these books which, of course, I recommend to any Magic Eye fan.

The Mystery of the Moon Illusion - A link to a book by Helen Elizabeth Ross and Cornelis Plug on how we perceive the moon. This goes into depths about perception and how this relates to the changing perceived size of the moon. More information is available at the above site.
